Hangar of the Future | Aman Dalal
In light of the growing need for more efficient and technologically advanced aircraft maintenance, this project called the Hangar of the Future was initiated. KLM’s Hangar 12 at Schiphol Airport Amsterdam has been facing increasing responsibility for sustaining the company as it maintains KLM’s entire fleet of Boeing 737 and 787 airplanes.
Using a methodical approach, the project resulted in a family of three concepts that fit the hangar: a collaborative aircraft inspection robot, Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) for moving materials and tools, and a visual realtime workfloor dashboard. These concepts address the top priorities of the stakeholders and are backed by well-grounded research. They were demonstrated in VR using Blender and Unreal Engine to convince various stakeholders to take the project forward.
